like a flashing sky, or a sheet of sun,
the atmosphere ignites and the flames descend.
a din of siren song and banshee wails
in the bloom of agony, as our city pales
against the dust.
burn, burn, black rain.
the survivors crawl to the river’s teeth.
with our limpid limbs and our fevered feet.
and like the embers of our dynasty,
we scatter on the wind for eternity,
without a sound.
burn, burn, black rain.
so we lose ourselves to primal sin,
to the man-made horrors of oblivion.
and as our anguished cries are rendered mute,
like vestal sacrifice to a vengeful god,
the rain begins.
